Mechanics of Flight

Bridge fabricated four custom tension structures for artist Sarah Sudhoff as part of her Point of Origin series. Point of Origin is an evolving, multidisciplinary, series that takes cues from the connections between sound, behavior and human emotion. Each Mechanism of Flight sculpture records the route of Life Flight helicopters from the five bases that support the Houston area. Memorial Hermann’s Life Flight crews fly life-saving missions to lift critically wounded or ill patients to Houston’s world class hospital facilities.

Constructed of pine spars, black dacron line, stainless steel hardware, and a PVC coated polyester, these forms and materials recall the classic components of early flight and cartography.
